Finding an Editor is like finding a Dentist!

Finding an Editor for my self-published book plus several titles I am working on, is like finding a dentist. Both have one thing in common: I cannot afford either of them!

So my first book sits on several sites like Amazon, iBooks, and about 4 more sites, with no reviews. It has two reviews from Smashwords and I am so grateful! I listened to what they said and changed the book and cover.

I’m disabled on disability with two teenage boys who eat all the time, bills are a joke and I help my mom take care of my grandma/her mom, and I help my mom when her MS is bad. I have an eye disorder too so SEEING mistakes in my books is harder.

I could never afford an Editor because my goal is to keep my work at FREE pricing. Can’t do that on Amazon but through Draft2Digital I can get it on Barnes and Noble, iBooks and more priced at FREE!

This title has been out since December of last year, I did a giveaway on goodreads for ten books and it is free on Smashwords too but before that I had it on Amazon through their 3 month program where I could offer it for free lending. So I know someone must have read it! Two are confirmed.

As I work on finishing a new title, the weight of my world coupled with my seemingly lack of talent haunts my mind. Stop smoking, take care of my depression, anxiety, ADD, and Myasthenia Gravis and everything else under this roof (autistic son, one who has no “I’m full” trigger) and know my work is out in this world not shining like a jewel because I have been the only proofreader but maybe it’s just a piece of fool’s gold. I told myself I was publishing my books for myself, self satisfaction not for money or fame or even one review. It was important to me to get my first book published quickly because I needed my grandma to see it. She can pass away at any moment right now.

I have American Indian blood of the Chickasaw tribe in Oklahoma. If I lived there instead of California, I could get free dental work, health care and a house. A house in the middle of scorpions, ticks and tarantulas along with tornados. I’ll stick with earthquakes here in California. Besides the one and only time I went to Oklahoma was to see my birth father, where the indian blood came from, and my half brother tried to shoot me for fun, because he was bored! Nope. Not going back.

There is a TV show in the USA right now called Smile. It showcases people who get free dental work. Circumstances in their lives that has led to their rotting teeth is extraordinary but i can relate. I was born early and was too premature. I can’t afford a dentist to fix my teeth so I just have one here and there pull the tooth out. It sets me back financially of course but that’s all I can do. I don’t smile because of my teeth or missing teeth. I’ll never date. Shoot, I’m making myself depressed.

Life is a gift, and we can view it in a positive light or a negative cloud.  Pushing through all the muck around me, I’m grasping at the light, holding on to it with all my strength and promising myself that no matter what, I’ll never let go.

REVIEW: Hundreds of people live in this small area that even they know not where they are. In order to get out, you have to win five Games. The Games can be labeled with a K and an R for Kill or Rape. A lot of the people were kidnapped and brought to this place where they were given a tattoo of numbers. These numbers are shown on the Game board and there can be several Games in one day or days can go by where no Games happen. I felt relief when it rained but it’s super hard to stay clean in mind and body in this hell on earth place located somewhere in the world. You have the community pot where people line up for their daily ration of food. It just happens that the pot contains human ‘meat’. If you lose a Game or break a mostly hidden rule, you end up in the pot. This is a community of people who have born children here where there is no land to grow crops and the only thing given to them is garbage and only if they were good ‘pets’ and fulfilled the requests from the Game board. This garbage is a treasure and treat that helps keep them alive. There are other things that could happen in the Game, terrible, dark things. If you like horror, this is a good book. There are some editing issues but because I was so curious about the characters, some are truly shady, I kept reading. I just kept my screen clear of my kids for it’s not for young people. The cannibalism is not for fun, but to live. It’s something you have to deal with on a personal level. I would recommend this book to any horror fan that doesn’t mind killing, rapes, mutilations and cannibalism in their reading materials. I’d say 18+ in age for readers. Thanks for a chilling story that kept me glued to my kindle!

It’s so hard to see my children make friends and lose friends.  Children can be so touchy and there is this label, the world is all about labels right now, called ‘bronies’.  Boys who like My Little Pony toys.  Now I don’t care if a boy wants to play with an alligator stuffy, a toy kitchen, puppet show, cars, trains, dolls, ponies, whatever!  Boys can play with what they want and the same goes for girls. But this ‘bronies’ thing is crazy.  Both my son’s hate it such as HATE HATE HATE it.  They’ve been teased by someone for watching a ‘MAD’ tv show episode featuring a caricature imitation of the popular cute Pony toys.  Mention that word ‘bronies’ and they go nuts in a bad negative way. I wish I could understand it but so far, a year in, I still have no clue why they hate it so much. THEY get teased for NOT being a ‘brony’.  There is this kid in Canada that my son played on his PS3 with all the time but this kid called my son some very bad words and unfriended him, one of the worse things you can do to someone on LBP2.  So, ‘BlXXThundXX 200X’ – X in place of real digits so I can’t be sued for slander or other garbage- grow up! Watch that mouth of yours and if you’re a brony, who cares? Not everyone has to like everything you do. 😦 When I hear ‘mortal enemies’ it breaks my heart at the age of ten! Jeez, kids should be having fun not obtaining a mortal enemy at such a tender age.  Another 😦 for making my son so upset last night and another :p for treating him like, okay got to use a nice word when I REALLY want to use something else, dirt. Go play with your pony toys and leave boys who don’t care for them alone. We do not have to conform to what YOU like. 😦 Just cause I’m a mom who cares. Personal space bubbles and hugs – Colleen

Wednesday free ebooks in mythology/fantasy/paranormal what a life

It’s Wednesday, yesterday the World Peace DLC came out for LBP2. It only comes out once a year. My youngest son was thrilled to finally get this DLC as it enables him to create so many more costumes.

 

I need to finish my reviews on four books.  I need to finish rounding up the garbage.  I did empty the dishwasher, and a bunch of other chores I can’t remember, oh yeah changed the cats water. But it is a Wednesday which means an early day for both of my kids and I am so tired! Wish it was a longer day so I could take a nap.  Then I could finish my reviews, do some editing on my stuff and finish the garbage. The garbage is a Wednesday thing.

 

So tired!!!!!!  Here are a bunch of free ebooks from Amazon. I go through my Wish List each day and get seriously excited when a book becomes free!  Which lead me to find this list. Free at the time of this post!

Long List of Paranormal Werewolves & Shifters Romance ebooks FREE! & rant

Today has been an interesting day. I believe a lot of people say that and it pretty much covers  a huge net of human activities, behaviors and life in general.  I started playing Animal Crossing New Leaf to play with my sons. We can visit each town, help each other grow etc. Only it turns out I’m on my own now.  My youngest barely plays and I’ve no clue anymore about my older son.  Found a back way to drive to and from my son’s school each day. I drive 20 minutes two times a day and I love to watch the fields as it’s farm land on each side.  I was excited a few weeks ago to see these HUGE fields filled with sunflowers.  Tons and tons of sleeping sunflowers.  But this week they mowed them all down and have been working hard on those two huge fields. There have been three very big piles of a white powdery substance that I saw today was put into one farm device and strewn over the fields.  Pesticide? Did something happen to the sunflowers that were all brown still that they had to mow them all down? That is tons of money down the drain for people.  I feel so sad as I was looking forward to seeing those sunflowers bloom.  My Red Hot Sally a plant I have nurtured for weeks in a pot, was eaten by green inchworm creatures. Our tomatoes never made it past the first month so long ago, my lavender is turning brown again and my green onions that I grew from tiny black seeds flourished and I pulled them all up this week.  There is a movie night special at my son’s school but it’s too late and I can’t drive in the dark. After having cataract surgery the lights on the road bounce off the lenses in my eyes and I can’t see.  And I have a confession to make.  While I was waiting for my son’s school to get out I was partially distracted by trying to find an alternate route home since I had seen on the freeway a huge amount of stopped traffic.  But the school’s water wasn’t good this week so they had these special water containers that dispensed water.  Two girls came over and filled a light greenish blue reusable water bottle with a straw and sat at one of the round tables. As soon as three boys rounded the corner, they started laughing in a very loud donkey way, seriously weird.  They were teasing the boys that they had gotten the last of the water. Whereupon the girl started to dump her water over her head and the boys tried to drink directly from the dispensers.  I knew 5th grade was outside but didn’t know 6th grade was out too. I went to the office and got 5th grade in trouble instead of 6th grade. Thing is, I told the school secretary that 5th grade was outside and there were kids doing what I just told you at the water station.  When the girls where doing the water thing, the school secretary had passed by them on her way back to the office.  So, now I feel very bad for 5th grade that got yelled at and mad at 6th that went free.  I owe 5th grade something nice for the licking  they got but it’s a healthy school so I can’t bake them cookies and pencils and erasers aren’t that interesting.  I need to say I am sorry that they got accused of doing something they didn’t do.  That’s my Friday the 13th. A morning nightmare for a mom, reviews for authors and AA New Leaf

Yesterday was horrid. My older boy refused to get out of bed thus missing his bus.  Says he’s sick but also is upset about current events at school.  Called Dr. they said they wouldn’t see him for a note for school. Who said I wanted a note? I yelled out loud alone in the car on my way home from dropping my younger son off at school 20 minutes away. I said terrible things about that person at the Dr.’s office who told the Dr. I wanted a note thus barring me from getting medical help for my son. Got home talked to my son, figures he ISN’T sick.  Took him to school, went to the grocery store to stock up on food for both boys (limited amount, money is tight right now), came home, put groceries away and got in bed. Stayed there for the whole day until it was time to go pick up my younger son.  I figured if I was in bed with the sheet over my head, nothing bad would happen.  Glad the rest of the day went smooth- well, as smooth as can be expected.  It is so much FUN being a MOM. I love my children and will forever, no matter how much gray hair sprouts from my head. On hot days it’s nice to get lost in a video game with my boys, Animal Crossing: New Leaf!
